EC inundated with unclaimed voters’ ID cards

The Northern Region Office of the Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that its district offices are still inundated with a number of unclaimed voter Identity (ID) Cards.

Mr Sylvester Kanyi, Northern Regional Director of the EC, who made the announcement at a dialogue with journalists in Tamale on Monday, said such voter identity cards were brought for replacement during the voter exhibition period.

The meeting was to brief the media in the region about preparations so far made  by the EC towards enhancing the credibility the December 7 polls.

Mr Kanyi, therefore, urged all those who were yet to pick their ID cards to go to the respective district offices of the EC to do so.

He also said that some parents, whose children registered as minors were returning their (minors) voter identity cards to the EC.

Mr Kanyi appealed to parents to asked their children who had registered as eligible voters not to attempt to vote during the election day.

He said the regional office of the EC had taken delivery of all election related materials and distributed them to all its district offices in the region.

Mr Kanyi said the region had a total number of 1,263,462 registered voters spread across 2,386 polling stations and 705 electoral areas.
