Ghana begins 2013 African Youth soccer tourney campaign against Egypt

Ghana’s Black Satellites will launch their campaign at the 2013 CAF U-20 Championship against Egypt on March 16 in Ain Temouchent, north-western Algeria.

The Black Satellites are housed in Group B alongside hosts Algeria and Benin for the tournament fixed for 16-30 March next year and will give birth to the continent’s representatives for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The Satellites clash with the Young Pharaohs comes immediately after the tournament opener between hosts Algeria and Benin at the same venue.

Information gathered by GNA Sports indicates that the Ghanaians will face Benin three days later at Ain Temouchent before squaring hosts Algeria on March 22 at the same venue for a place at the semis.

The Satellites will be hoping to go far at the 18th edition of the biennial championship after crashing out of the previous edition held in South Africa in 2011 at the group phase.

Group B has holders Nigeria, Congo, Gabon and Mali; and will be based in Oran.

The semi-finalists will represent the continent at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Turkey next July.

The final match will take place in Oran, located in the northwestern Mediterranean coast of Algeria on March 30.
