Qatar 2022 Committee confer with FIFA officials

Officials of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee has met with the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) to update them on the current status towards the 2022 World Cup.

A statement from the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee (Q22) copied to GNA Sports said that during the meeting held last week, the Q22 presented FIFA with the first draft of the Grand Master Schedule for stadia construction for the tournament

It said the Grand Master Schedule is the roadmap for delivery of the 2022 FIFA World Cup and will now be reviewed in detail together with FIFA. It will provide a framework for timelines of construction for competition and non-competition venues, in addition to national infrastructure projects key to the successful hosting of the event.

The statement noted that Q22 and FIFA have agreed to establish a working group, encompassing various departments, scheduled to meet every two months for updates and next steps.

“Our meetings with FIFA were very positive and represent an important step in continuing with our progress toward preparing for the delivery of a successful 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

“The agreements we have reached for working groups and senior officials to meet on a regular basis provide us with an enhanced framework for exchanging mutual updates and making timely decisions that will ultimately advance and enhance our FIFA World Cup programme,” said Al Thawadi.

On his part, Yashir Al Jamal, Technical Director of Q22 also detailed all capital works scheduled to be finalized in time for the FIFA World Cup including, the metro, road and utilities systems, hotel and real estate developments, stadia, fan zones, entertainment and tourist attractions, as well as urban planning schemes.

It said next January; the Q22 will have a kick-off meeting with the FIFA Stadium Consultants to agree on a common strategy and deadlines for the Stadium Design Review Process.

The FIFA delegation was made up of Administrators and a Stadium Consultant.

Qatar will host the 22nd edition of the biggest football spectacle, and the first ever in the Middle East in 2022.
