Integrity counts in fight against corruption – Anna Bossman
Integrity is very important in the fight against corruption and mal-governance, a former boss of Ghana’s Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Ms Anna Bossman has said.
Ms Bossman who is currently the Director of the Integrity and Anti-corruption Department (IACD) at the African Development Bank (AfDB) made this known at an event organized by the Bank December 11, 2012.
“Integrity counts as it helps to fight effectively against corruption and mal-governance,” Ms Bossman said.
She indicated that the objective of the AfDB Days against corruption event was to enable participants to openly discuss issues on corruption.
According to the AfDB, it has strengthened its anti-corruption control systems to lead the institution in the fight against corruption.
In a statement, the AfDB indicated that the control system set up is on the move and the results achieved are plausible.
President of the AfDB, Mr Donald Kaberuka said “We should work hand in hand with the local authorities in order to fight against corruption as our Institution cannot single-handed succeed in this struggle.”
Mr Kaberuka, the statement says, indicated the important areas that demand concerted efforts, in particular, budgetary support, natural resources management (mines et gas) and the financing of elections in Africa.
Africa should steer clear of past errors in the management of its natural resources. The AfDB is at the fore-front and at all levels, he added.
