Cocoa farmers asked to invest in farms
Nana Kwesi Ofori, Central Regional Chief Farmer, has advised cocoa farmers to use the bonus government pay to them to maintain their farms to enhance production and improve the quality of their produce.
Nana Ofori said it would counter productive if the money is not channeled to enhance the cultivation of the cash crop.
He gave the advised at a rally organised by the Produce Buying Company (PBC) at Nyarkrom in the Agona West Municipality.
Mr Andrew Abankwa, Local Manager for PBC noted that his outfit’s performance at the end of the 2010/2011 season had declined.
He attributed the cause to the decision of most farmers to desert the company to do business other licensed buying companies.
Mr Fred Adu, Regional Manager of the company in a speech read on his behalf said the company had provided enough logistics, such as scales, sacks and funds for the purchases and evacuation of cocoa for the 2012/13 season.
