Gomoa West District Assembly exceeds 2012 revenue target by 17%
The Gomoa West District Assembly exceeded its revenue target for 2012 by 17.02 percent as at October 31, 2012.
Announcing this at the third ordinary meeting of the Sixth Assembly at Apam on Wednesday, Mr Adam Hussein, the District Finance Officer, said the Assembly collected GH¢179,805.59 against the annual estimate of GH¢153, 648.00.
The Assembly collected GH¢156, 227.46 as against GH¢149, 359.00 in 2011 representing 103.91 percent.
Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, the District Chief Executive, said the Assembly would revive the formation of District Guards to protect life and property and also to help in the collection of revenue.
Briefing the Assembly on the formation of guards, Deputy Superintendent of Police Lawrence Lumor, who is in-charge of Apam District Command of the Ghana Police Service, said people selected to form the guard must be well screened.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Ofori Asante of Agona Bobikuma , said formation of the guard must not be made as “job for the boys” but must be for those who really qualify to be recruited.
He appealed to the Assembly to provide toilet facilities for Gomoa Eshiem and Gomoa Tarkwa police posts.
Mr Aidoo-Mensah expressed concern about uncompleted projects being funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) in the district.
These include six-unit classroom blocks for Apam Catholic Primary, Mozano D/A Primary School, Mampong Primary School, Ohua Primary School and toilet facilities for Tarkwa Catholic Primary School and appealed to the GETFund to ensure that the projects should be completed without further delay.
He said some of the contracts had been awarded over six years ago and even the contractors could not be traced.
The assembly members urged the administration to at least inform them about contracts awarded in their electoral areas to enable them to monitor their execution.
Mr Anthony Eyiah-Quansah, Presiding Member of the Assembly, appealed to members of the Town/Area Councils to ensure that their quarterly reports were submitted promptly to the Assembly.
The Assembly expressed grave concern about the failure of the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Mr Okyere Panyin Eduamoah to secure the members motor-bike licenses that the MP took as a contract together with the training of the members on how to ride the bikes since November 2011.
The members complained about Police harassment for riding motor-bikes without licence.
They appealed to the MP to either provide them with the licences or refund the payment they had made for the licences.
