Advisory Council of Presidential transitional team inaugurated

Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah- Arthur on Friday inaugurated the first ever three member advisory council of the Presidential transitional team chaired by Mrs Joycelyn Bamford-Addo, Speaker of Parliament.

The other members of the team are Prof Akilakpa Sawyer, a member of the Council of State and Prof Mariama Ewurama Addy, a Biochemist.

Mrs Bamford-Addo said this is in line with the Presidential Transitional Act, 2012.

She said the role of the team is to assist in the mediation and the resolution of differences which may arise during deliberations by the Transitional Team.

Mrs Bamford-Addo congratulated President Mahama on his election as the President and said she had no doubt that he would live up to expectation by serving Ghanaians selflessly.

She said the opportunity must be seen as a great challenge to prove all Ghanaians and indeed the international community that Ghana’s democratic credentials could be equal to other established democratic jurisdictions.

Mrs Bamford-Addo said all the areas highlighted in the Transitional Act including the establishment of the Transitional Team and Advisory Council were aimed at entrenching real democratic values in the country while promoting a new social contract of shared rights and responsibilities.

She expressed the hope that the various sub-committees provided under the act will carry out their duties conscientiously and diligently so that at the end of the day “we shall have a smooth transition resulting in an equitable and lasting peace.”

Mrs Bamford-Addo said “as Chair and member of this council, we accept the responsibility and the confidence reposed in us, pledging to work towards achieving a smooth and seamless transition envisaged by the President Transition Act that is designed to guarantee a bright and promising future for the nation.”

The Minority members of parliament failed to attend. Before the ceremony started there was an announcement that the minority was holding a caucus meeting and would be joining shortly but they never turned up.
