New Upper East House of Chiefs President sworn into office
Naba Sigri Bewong, the newly elected President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs was on Tuesday sworn into office by the Bolgatanga High Court Judge, Alhaji Mustapha Mohammed.
Naba Bewong who is Paramount Chief of the Sakoti traditional area, was sworn into office together with his deputy, Pe Ditundini Adiale Ayagitam, Paramount Chief of the Builsa Traditional area.
The two have succeeded Pe Charles Awampaga and Naba Olando Awuni of the Paga Traditional area and Naga traditional area respectively.
The President- elect thanked members of the House for the confidence resposed in him and his Vice and promised that they would work harder to maintain the unity and prevailing peace in the House.
He said he and his vice would uphold the good work of their predecessors and would seek counsel from them when the need arose.
He said subject to the approval of the house the past presidents of the house namely Paga Pio, Bawku Naba, Bolga Naba together with the Chiana Pio would constitute members of the Standing Committee of the house to offer wise counsel when cases were brought before the house.
Naba Bewong commended the chiefs in the various traditional areas of the region for playing significant roles in marinating peace during the just ended election, including the security agencies, and expressed pleasure for the fact that the region did not record any acts of violence.
The High Court Judge admonished the President of the House and his Vice to exhibit high sense of honesty , integrity and also be steadfast in executing their duties, adding that it was only by doing so that they could make a mark and earn good reputation for themselves.
