Shot Upper West Regional Minister leaves hospital
The Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, has been discharged from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, after undergoing a successful operation to remove bullets from his body.
The Minister was airlifted from Wa to Accra for further medical attention, after sustaining gunshot wounds, from a robbery attack on the Fielmoa-Gwollu road last Thursday.
Alhaji Sulemana was in a convoy from Gwollu in the Sissala West District to Fielmoa to thank his constituents for electing him as their member of Parliament when the incident occurred.
The Public Relations Officer of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), Mr Tanko Bagbara, who was with the minister at the hospital, made his known to the Daily Graphic.
He said, “Alhaji Sulemana has had a successful surgery, all the pellets, including some broken ones, have been removed.
Meanwhile, the police and military have intensified their patrols and snap checks in the region, particularly, in the Sissala West District, where the regional minister was shot.
The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Danso Adei Acheampong, who also spoke to the Daily Graphic in Wa, appealed to residents of Gball, Kwala and other surrounding communities in the Sissala West District to be forthcoming with information which would facilitate investigations into the case.
He said the police in the region had enough personnel and necessary logistics to make for effective operations.
He, therefore, appealed to residents of the region to cooperate with the security agencies, as they carried out their duties.
DCOP Acheampong said the police in collaboration with the military and other security agencies were doing everything within their powers to protect lives and property throughout the region.
