Abolish JHS, SHS and bring back O and A levels – Dag Heward-Mills
The Presiding Bishop of the Lighthouse Chapel International, Bishop Dag Heward – Mills, on Tuesday blamed the fallen standards of education in the country on the attitude of some corrupt and disloyal officials at the helm of affairs in the education sector.
He suggested abolishing the Junior High School(JHS) and the Senior High School(SHS) school concepts for their failings and revert to the Ordinary ‘O’ and Advanced ‘A’ Levels.
Bishop Heward – Mills was delivering a sermon at the special watch night service held at the Qodesh, North Kaneshie, to usher in the New Year.
Bishop Heward-Mills alleged that examination questions are sold to students by certain unscrupulous and greedy individuals who are not supposed to do it.
“During my time nobody sees the question papers and you know that these questions have never been asked before. We need to go back to the old system the ‘0’ and ‘A’ level with an external examination monitoring source based in London”, he said.
He said it was important for the NDC government, after winning the elections, to ensure equitable and fair distribution of wealth, resources and opportunities irrespective of political, religious and ethnic persuasions to ensure socio-economic stability, while protecting the peace in the country.
The Presiding Bishop appealed to the government to offer the main opposition party about 30 per cent of all business contracts as a mechanism to check breeding of angry and disgruntled people.
“The reason businesses don’t do well in Ghana is that people are not faithful in what they do and therefore incur debts instead of posting profits due to the activities of certain characters in position,” he said.
