Volta Region records zero commercial fire in 2012
The Volta Region did not record any commercial, industrial or institutional fire in the year 2012.
It, however, recorded 83 domestic fires, 10 vehicular fires, 16 bush fires and one electrical fire.
A release signed by Mr Franklin Philips Masiku, Acting Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, and copied to the GNA on Wednesday, said the Service handled a total of 110 fires in the year 2012.
The cost of damage caused by the fires was estimated at GH¢808,610.00 .
The release said the Service responded to 20 road traffic accidents in which some victims were rescued, with two deaths recorded.
It said the Service also awarded 50 fire certificates within the year to hotels, hostels, guest houses, petrol and gas filling stations and other public institutions.
The release said the GNFS in Region will intensify public education on fire in markets, places of worship, workplaces, educational institutions and industries.
