Capacity building training held for Kwahu West officials
A day’s capacity building workshop has been organized for heads of decentralized departments, secretarial staff, assembly members and zonal council members drawn from the Kwahu West Municipality at Nkawkaw on Friday.
It was aimed to enhance the performance of the assembly in the coming years.
The objective of the workshop was to build the capacity of the secretarial staff in the management of meetings to enhance their capacity in report writing to support the assembly to improve on its performance.
It was organized by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for Pro-Active District and Municipal Assemblies throughout the country with consultants from Zirmacon Multi-Consult Limited.
They were taken through topics like writing of effective reports, records management, orderly business reports and communication of factual information, types of reports, personal and impersonal report writing.
Other topics included the structure of the local government system, major reasons for the review of the Legislative Instrument (LI1589), composition of zonal council and their functions, composition of unit committee and their functions and challenges of zonal councils and unit committee.
Addressing the participants, the leader of the Consultancy firm, Mr John Azasoo, said the smallest unit of governance was the unit committee and should therefore be adequately resourced to enhance the development of the assembly.
He advised area council members to involve chiefs and other opinion leaders to ensure the effective performance of the unit committee to improve the living standards of the people.
Mr Azasoo urged the participants to put what they had learnt at the workshop into practice at their various offices for the development of the assembly.
