Two health institutions in Winneba get medical help
The University of Virginia in Charlottesville in the US has donated drugs and medical equipment to the University of Education Winneba (UEW) Clinic and the Winneba Government Hospital.
The items include syringes and needles, beds, surgical items, and drugs estimated cost of $15,000.
The donation followed a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Charlottesville and Winneba as sister cities three years ago.
The donation followed the initiative of Rev. Father Nana Acheampong Ghartey, a citizen of Winneba based in Charlottesville.
Presenting the items at separate ceremonies Nii Ephraim, Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, expressed the hope that the items would help provide quality health care services to people.
Very Rev. Eldad Bonney, Presiding Member for Effutu Municipal Assembly, said as part of the exchange programme between the cities, a team of medical staff would visit the area in March to provide medical services to the people.
Mrs Ernestina Yawson, Chief Executive Officer of Winneba Sister Cities Commission, expressed her appreciation to the donors.
Prof. Mawuadem Amedikah, Dean of the Faculty of Science, received the items on behalf of the University while Mrs Margret Oklikeh, Nurse Manager of the Winneba Government Hospital, received them on behalf of the Ministry of Health.
Dr George Kwame Prah, Medical Superintendent of the Winneba Government Hospital, expressed the hope that the donors would continue to support the hospital with more of such items and appealed for an ambulance since the hospital has none.
