Ghana condemns hostage taking in Algeria
The Government of Ghana has condemned the recent hostage taking by a group of Islamic Militants at the Amenas Gas Plant in Algeria.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on Monday and signed by Mr Leslie K. Christian, Chief Director.
The statement said the Government of Ghana condemns this blatant act of terrorism, which sought to destabilize the peace and security of Algeria.
It said in consequence, the Government of Ghana expresses its support for and solidarity with the Government of Algeria for its resolute and decisive action to free the hostages.
“It joins the international community to express its sincere condolences to the bereaved families and those countries whose nationals were affected and to the Government and people of Algeria,” the statement said.
It reiterated that the Government of Ghana re-affirms that the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Algeria must be respected and preserved from all acts of terrorism, and states that the perpetrators of this dastardly act should be brought to justice in accordance with international law.
