AFCON 2013: Niger captain Maazou predicts Ghana doom
Niger captain Moussa Maazou has predicted doom for the Black Stars ahead of their Group B decider on Monday in Port Elizabeth.
Maazou, on the books of Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel alongside former Hearts of Oak midfielder Uriah Asante tells GNA Sports that the Stars should expect a tough challenge from them.
The Mena needs nothing short of the maximum points to be certain of a place at the knockout stage whilst a draw will be enough for the Black Stars, but the 24-year old insists they would go for the kill to achieve the historic feat.
Niger bagged their first point ever at the Africa Cup of Nations after holding DR Congo to a barren draw last week and are hoping to build on that for their first win ever that will take them through to the quarters.
“It will be a difficult game. Ghana wants to win and we (Niger) are also eyeing a victory to boost our chances.
“We will tackle each game once it comes. We are ready for Ghana. I believe we can qualify and we will give our all to pick the three points.”
Maazou and his colleagues are hoping to emulate the local counterparts who defeated Ghana by a lone goal in the ultimate group clash during the 2011 African Nations Championship (CHAN) held in Sudan, and go through to the knockout stage.
Ghana and Niger will be meeting for the first time at the Africa Cup of Nations.
