Ghana President consoles Brazil over nightclub tragedy
Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has sent a message of condolence to Brazilian President, Dilma Vana Rousseff, her government and families of the 230 people who lost their lives in the nightclub fire.
Fire gutted a nighclub known as “Boate Kiss” in southern Brazil which was reported to have killed about 230 persons
An estimated 500 people were said to be in the nightclub when the fire broke out early Sunday morning.
“For a nation to lose so many of its citizens especially young and university students is a serious tragedy that can affect its human resource,” President Mahama said in a statement signed by his spokesperson, John Abdulai Jinapor.
President Mahama’s message mourned with all who lost a relation, friend or loved one in the ‘Kiss Nightclub’ fire, and expressed on behalf of the Government and People of Ghana, “condolences to the families of the victims.”
Brazil’s President, Dilma Rousseff, cut short a visit to Chile to visit the scene of the incident in the university town of Santa Maria in Rio Grande do Sul state, reports the Financial Times.
