GTUC signs pact with Chinese Guilin University on academic partnership

The Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) and Guilin University of Technology (GUT), China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote the strengthening and development of academic partnerships, publication and research for high quality technology education.

The possible areas for corporation between the two institutions included teacher-student exchange programme, academic and scientific joint research, top-up programme, short-term language and culture tours and industrial corporations.

Professor Zhang Peng, Chancellor of GUT, who led a six-member delegation to sign the MOU in Accra on Wednesday, said this collaboration would further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

He said their University founded in 1956 had a student population comprising 21,000 undergraduates and 1,600 post graduate students.

He said they had 32 higher National Diploma programmes, 66 Bachelor Degree programmes, 40 Masters Programmes and 3 PHD programmes.

Dr Osei Darkwa, President of the GTUC, said one of the goal of the University was to promote service learning among its student for national development.

He said management of the University believes in building the capacity of its staff and faculty members to be able to deliver their mandate.

He noted that the collaboration with the GUT from China with their rich expertise, would help them expand and introduce new programmes.

He expressed the hope that the outcome of the collaboration would be of immense benefit to the two University communities.
