Three traders remanded into prison custody for possessing narcotics
Three persons, Yaw Yeboah, 36; Kwabena Ninsin, 19, trader and Odartey Wllingto, 34, all traders and residents of Agona-Swedru were on Tuesday remanded into prison custody by a Cape Coast Circuit Court charged with conspiracy to commit crime and possession of narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
Wellington also doubles as a preacher. They all pleaded not guilty and would be re-arraigned before court on Tuesday, February 19.
Prosecuting, Mr. Ben Ansah Agyemfra a State Attorney told the court presided over by Mrs. Florence Kai Otu that on Friday, November 18, 2011, the Agona Swedru Divisional Police Command undertook an exercise to clamp down on narcotic drug peddlers in the area.
Mr. Agyemfra said, when the Police got to Mahodwe, a suburb of Agona-Swedru, Yeboah was arrested and a match box containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found in his pocket.
The Police later proceeded to Yaabem, another suburb of Swedru, where Willington and Ninsin were also arrested and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were found on them.
The dried leaves were later sent to a forensic laboratory for analysis and it tested positive for cannabis popularly known as “wee”, a prohibited drug and the accused persons were charged with the offence and brought before court.
