President Mahama promises to resource CHRAJ, NCCE to perform effectively
President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday gave the assurance that government would adequately resource the governance institutions to empower them to play their roles professionally and effectively in the society.
He said “Much as government will empower you to play your roles professionally, you also need to respect societal norms that had over the years put this country together.”
President Mahama gave the assurance, when heads of Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), National Media Commission and National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE) called on him at the Flagstaff House, Kanda.
The heads were there to congratulate him for his victory in the 2012 Presidential election, his subsequent investiture as President and to outline some constitutional challenges that are impeding their duties.
Before holding a closed-door meeting, President Mahama said Ghana’s media freedom surpassed many others even in the developed world and cautioned practitioners not to abuse the right by engaging in unprofessional and unethical practices.
He said the NCCE and CHRAJ should educate Ghanaians on their civic rights and ensure justice among the citizenry.
Mrs Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei, Chairperson of NCCE, who spoke on behalf of her colleagues, congratulated President Mahama for his victory and pledged their support to work with him for the betterment of Ghanaians.
She said they would be in touch with his administration to ensure that all the constitutional challenges are addressed in the coming years.
