Ex-convict goes back to prison
The Half Assini district magistrate’s court on Friday sentenced a 20-year old ex-convict from New Nzulezo near Mpataba in the Jomoro District to six months imprisonment for stealing 350 dried coconuts.
Awia Sali pleaded guilty.
The court presided over by Mr Hans Kofi Kpogo ordered him to pay GHc100.00 to Mr Francis Yankey, the complainant to cover the unretrieved coconuts and other incidentals.
Detective Police Chief Inspector Paul Anaman prosecuting told the court that at about 0830 hours on January 11, Mr Yankey went to his coconut plantation at Twiako near New Nzulezo and detected some of the coconut fruits were stolen.
He said Mr Yankey caused a gongon to be beaten at Azuleti and New Nzulezo, announcing his intention to curse the one who stole his coconuts.
The prosecution said on January 25, 2013, Mr Yankey upon a tip-off arrested Sali and handed him over to the Mpataba Police and during his caution statement, he admitted the offence.
