Lack of funds hit anti-AIDS campaign

Mr William Ansah Kwakye, the District Focal Person, said the campaign group could not implement its intervention programme in the area last year, adding “Not even the annual AIDS Day celebration could be held”.

He was presenting a report on the campaign to the District AIDS Committee, at its first meeting of 2013, at Juaso.

Mr Kwakye said the group neither received money from the Ghana AIDS Commission nor the mandatory release of 0.5 per cent of the District Assemblies Common Fund for AIDS activities.

He said that constant education on HIV and AIDS was critical to helping people to change their sexual attitude.

The meeting was used to outdoor Devascom Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), contracted to spearhead the campaign to reduce stigmatization of people living with the disease.

Mr. John Arko Tettey, Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, appealed to the people to support the NGO to deliver its madate.
