Two EC officials arrested over forgery pink sheets

The Northern Regional Police Command with the assistance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Sunday arrested two officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Savelugu/Nanton District in their attempt to forge the EC’s Pink Sheets.

The Savelugu/Nanton District Director of the EC Ben Akumanua and Salamatu Usman were arrested with 15 pink sheets allegedly trying to modify or change the electoral results of the 2012 presidential and parliamentary elections. They are assisting the Police in its investigation.

Superintendant Alhaji Mahama Arhin, Northern Regional Crime Officer told the GNA that the Police received reports about the attempt of the EC officials to make changes to the pink sheets which he indicated was illegal in accordance to section 30f of the EC’s offences.

He said the Police had started investigations into the matter and suspected that the documents were original being forged, saying “if found culpable, the officials would either be fined or face a prison term of not less than two years or both”.

Superintendent Arhin said the two suspects told the Police in their statements that they were instructed by the Deputy Northern Regional Director of the EC to conduct the exercise.

Dr. Clifford Braimah, NPP’s Northern Regional Secretary in reacting to the story told the GNA that the arrest confirmed the stance of the NPP that there were irregularities to some of the polling stations’ results noting that the Savelugu constituency was not different.

He alleged that the EC was trying to change the pink sheets to nullify the stance of the party that some of the constituencies’ results were not signed, stressing that the arrest confirmed the fact that some of the polling stations were forged.

At the time of filing this report, many NPP supporters had besieged the Northern Regional Police Headquarters demanding for justice while others chanted; “thieves, they have stolen us”.
