Contractor charged for issuing false cheques
Julius Ankrah, a contractor resident at Apowa near Takoradi on Tuesday appeared before Takoradi Circuit Court “B” for allegedly issuing two false cheques.
He pleaded not guilty to two counts of issuing false cheques and the court granted him bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 to re-appear on March 1.
Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police Richard Batey said in September 2012, the accused person hired tipper trucks from two transport owners for a project he was undertaking at a mining site at Benso.
He said the accused came into agreement with the transport owners to pay the first complainant GH¢800 and the second complainant GH¢600 every working day and the first complainant worked for 25 days and the second complainant worked for 33 days.
DSP Batey said after the period, the accused issued two National Investment Bank cheques with face value of GH¢3,400 and GH¢3,800 to the complainants but the cheques were not honoured by the bank when they were presented on October 12, 2012.
The complainants reported the matter to the Police and the accused person was arrested.
