Ho passengers say new transport fares manageable

trotroSome passengers in Ho on Monday described the new inter and intra-city transport fares as manageable.

They described the between eight and 25 per cent increment as acceptable.

“The new fare of GH¢ 9.00 instead of GH¢ 8.00 to Accra in this bus is okay. We just pray that we have the money to pay,” Vincent Agble, a student about to travel in an air-conditioned bus to Accra, told the Ghana News Agency at the Central Lorry Station.

Some passengers at Ho-Hohoe and Ho-Aflao stations also said the additional GH¢ 1.00 cedi on the GH¢4.00 old fare was normal.

Normal of Monday mornings, the station was relatively busy as some passengers waited peacefully  in queues to travel to their destinations.

The GNA, however, witnessed a misunderstanding between a taxi driver and a passenger over the difference of between 10 and 20 pesewas.

At the Sokode-Lokoe Gas Filling Station, some domestic gas users vented their anger on the attendants over the 50 per cent increase on the product.

While a few people openly expressed misgivings at the price hikes, some murmured their disappointments and wondered if they have to revert to the use of charcoal.

Some taxi drivers, who were in long queues waiting to buy gas, also expressed anger at the increase.

The Ghana Road Transport Operators (GRTO) on Sunday announced an increase in transport fares after the National Petroleum Authority announced fuel price increases on Saturday.
