LEKMA funds 90% of projects with IGF – MCE
Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA) in the Greater Accra Region has completed 90% of its development projects using its Internally Generated Fund (IGF), Mr Daniel Amartey Mensah the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has said.
The Assembly, in 2009, generated less than GH¢9,000.00 as its IGF and kept on improving and last year it generated GH¢3,000,000.
The projects include a six-unit classroom block and a two classroom block at Nungua Methodist School; two-storey six-unit classroom block at the Nungua Cluster of schools; and two storey six-unit classroom blocks at Teshie Mortein Cluster of schools. CHIP compounds, footbridges and fencing of schools parks and the Nungua Cemetery.
Other projects which the MCE said were also completed using Heavily Indebted Poor Country Fund (HIPC), District Development Facility (DDF) and the District Assembly Common Fund were two storey-six unit classroom block at Nungua St Peters Junior High School.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Monday, Mr Mensah said under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND), another six-unit classroom block was built at Teshie Aboma School and another six unit-classroom block constructed at Teshie Aggrey School.
“The Assembly in-collaboration with the Ministry of Education would build a Technical/Vocational school in addition to the existing one which had being absorbed by the Government now,” he said.
From the Road Fund, he said, four major culverts were constructed, adding “urban roads are also near completion.
Mr Mensah said the Municipality had procured a double cabin pick-up for the Nungua Police and intended to get another one for the Teshie Police to facilitate their movements in ensuing security in the Municipality.
“The Assembly has also construction two-storey 40 and 20 seater Water Closets and KVIP toilets at the Nungua market and in some communities in the Teshie community.”
He said the Assembly had also successfully acquired offices for the Municipal Education and Health directorates.
It has also relocated the O’Reilly Senior High School to a befitting place within the Municipality, he said.
In the fishing industry, he said, the Assembly had supported 14 fishermen with funds to purchase outboard motors to enhance their fishing activities.
On the issue of sanitation, Mr Mensah said, the Assembly contracted the Zoomlion Company and Dubin Cleansing to manage the waste generated in the Municipality.
He said the Assembly had finished phase one of the Polyclinic project and had also procured basic equipment at a cost of GH¢50,000 for it to take off. “We would continue with the phase two of the project which is the maternity block,” he added.
The MCE said the Assembly would continue to focus on the areas of education, health and sanitation and also work hard to further increase its IGF to support more projects in the Municipality.
He said refuse trucks would also be procured to support the waste contractors this year.
