Paintsil’s assault case far from over
The assault case involving Black Stars defender John Paintsil is far from over with the Police set to unravel the full story behind the incident.
The 31-year old right-back was arrested late Friday for allegedly assaulting his wife, Richlove, but was granted bail deep into the night.
The complainant, Amoah Danquah, a resident at the plush Trasacco Valley Estates and also neighbour of the Black Stars defender also reportedly tasted the wrath of the latter in his attempt to act as the ‘Good Samaritan’ when the player charged on his wife.
In a bizarre twist to the turn of events, Danquah is said to have publicly made clear his wish withdraw charges against the Hapoel Tel Aviv defender, who is recuperating from a hamstring injury sustained during the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa, in an attempt to douse the case.
However, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Freeman Tettey, Greater Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer tells GNA Sports the case is still on.
“We have not received any letter or statement from the complainant to continue with the case or otherwise. In any case, this is a criminal case and the discretion is the Police’s even if a letter or statement of withdrawal from the complainant. The Police has the final say not the complainant. We don’t base such issues on media reports.”
The Israel-based defender has come in for bad press the last one week following allegations of fling with prostitutes at the Black Stars camp during the team’s failed fifth Nations Cup quest in South Africa few weeks ago.
