Achimota power sub-station in full operation

The Achimota Sub-station is now operating at full capacity following the completion of the installation of a new 66 MVA transformer to replace the one that got burnt in January this year.

One of the five transformers at the sub-station was completely burnt during a fire outbreak believed to have been caused by lightning during a rainfall on Saturday January 26, this year.

Less than one month later, GRIDCo has managed to install a new transformer which officials say may positively affect the current load-shedding exercise in the areas supplied by the sub-station.

The burning of transformer affected power supply to many areas in Accra and parts of the Central and Eastern regions.

The transformer was damaged beyond repairs and had to be replaced with a new one, estimated at $1.2 million.
