Aggrieved retired workers appeal for restoration of pensions
Some Pensioners on the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) pay roll in the Upper West region who went to collect their pensions for this month discovered to their dismay that their names had been deleted from the pay voucher.
Others had their names in the voucher but had amounts as low as zero Cedis and GH¢10 against their names.
The names of some of the pensioners had been deleted from the pay voucher for some months now for no apparent reason and all efforts to have them restored had been proving futile and most of them were currently living in abject penury.
These were made known in a statement issued and signed by Mr. Abdul Mumuni Issah, a spokesman for the affected pensioners at Wa on Tuesday.
The statement said the deletion of names of pensioners on the government pay roll has been occurring monthly with no end in sight.
The aggrieved pensioners urged the Controller and Accountant-General Department to take a cue from SSNIT which does not encounter such “unpardonable blunders” in the processing of monthly pensions for pensioners under it.
They appealed to the Authorities concerned to act quickly to restore hope to the affected pensioners.
When contacted, an official of the regional office of the Department who declined to give her name said they were aware of the situation and were working hard to get all anomalies corrected.
