We need to work together for accelerated development – Sunyani West DCE
Ms Agnes Kusi, Sunyani West District Chief Executive, has called for a closer collaboration and support from all stakeholders to ensure an accelerated national development.
She said government alone could not continue to meet the growing demand for improvement in socio-economic development with the limited resources without the collaboration and support of stakeholders.
Ms Kusi made the call when addressing a parade of school children and some voluntary organisations after a march past to commemorate Ghana’s 56th independence anniversary celebration at Odumase.
Twenty-four schools from the Basic, Junior High Schools (JHS), Senior High School (SHS) and five cadet corps participated in the march past.
Some teachers who had distinguished themselves in the district were honoured with gas cookers, television sets, electric irons and certificates.
Basic schools that excelled in the 2012 BECE as well as pupils and students who distinguished themselves in extra-curricula activities were awarded with certificates and electric irons.
Ms Kusi said collaboration would improve the living standards in rural and urban communities through innovations from the private sector and promote key sectors such as education and health.
She urged the people to change their attitudes on social issues and avoid individualist attitudes and selfishness but ensure collective responsibility to improve the efficiency and performance of the public sector.
Ms Kusi advised the students and pupils to be disciplined and respect their parents and the elderly in society to uphold the values of culture and the principles of honesty and hard work.
She assured the students and pupils of government’s continued interventions to create a congenial atmosphere for teaching and learning, while they took advantage of all the sacrifices and opportunities being made by their parents and teachers to learn hard to become responsible leaders in future.
Ms Kusi advised them against all forms of immoral acts that could ruin their lives and bring their education to an abrupt end and concentrate on their education to achieve their vision for the future.
She called on teachers and parents to help in the proper training of children to prepare them to become responsible future leaders since the country’s destiny was in the hands of the youth.
Nana Osei Agyeman Kwabena Prempeh, Sunyani East District Director of Education urged teachers and students to be committed in teaching and learning to reach the highest level in education and in addition, work towards peace in their communities.
