Ghana to build second desalination plant
The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis would soon get desalination plant to process seawater into potable water to ensure adequate supply of potable water to the increasing population in the twin-city.
Mr. Daniel Moumalla, Western Regional Director of the Ghana Urban Water Limited (GUWL), told journalists that a Spanish company Abengoa, had signed an agreement with the GUWL to build the plant.
He said feasibility studies had already began to ascertain the appropriate place to locate the plant, adding that the low level of water in the Pra River and illegal miners who pollute the river are reasons for the decision.
Mr Moumalla said it would also be difficult for water in the Pra River to satisfy the metropolis for the next 25 years.
He said Teshie in the Greater Accra Region is the only place in the country where desalination plant had been constructed.
