Newmont Ghana wants compensation issues at Akyem project resolved responsibly

NewmontNewmont Ghana has called for a responsible and safe manner in resolving compensation issues between employees and two construction contractors working at its Akyem project.

In a statement issued March 7, 2013, the miner said both parties should engage in good-faith dialogue over the issue.

Some construction workers recently protested against their management for additional compensation, a situation Newmont says “there were no guns or dangerous weapons involved” despite the agitations.

The Regional and District Security Committees, Newmont Ghana, individuals representing the protesting employees and community leaders are said to have agreed to participate in a dialogue.

Newmont Ghana said it will continue to work with all stakeholders to ensure a safe and productive working environment as the construction phase of the Akyem project begins to taper off and first production nears later this year.
