Police guards NDC Wa office

Ghana PolicePolice in Wa, capital of Upper West are patrolling the streets of the town and guarding offices of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following disturbances by rampaging youth of the Party on Monday.

The rioters calling themselves Concerned Youth of the NDC were expressing their disapproval of the nomination of Mr Abu Kabiebata Kansangbata as Deputy Minister designate for the Region.

They set ablaze two bill boards of President John Dramani Mahama and threatened to burn the Party’s offices in the town.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (COP) Kofi Danso Akyeampong, Regional Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency that the Regional Command had to deploy personnel to safe guard the Party’s property.

He stated that no formal report on the incident had been made to the Police to help carry out investigations and if possible arrest people that were involved in the act.

COP Akyeampong explained that since the Police did not witness the destruction of the bill boards they could not issue any warrant for arrest.

He called on the fuming supporters of the NDC to seek appropriate ways of addressing their grievances.

Until his appointment Mr Abu was the Nadowli District Chief Executive.
