Ghana Tourism Authority plans to establish district offices

kakum2The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) is to establish district tourism offices across the country as part of moves to assist develop tourist infrastructure in the various communities.

Mr. Sampson Donkor, the acting Chief Executive, said this would help bring more vibrancy into the sector and maximize revenue generation.

They have targeted to set up at least 40 of such district offices, starting this year.

He said in preparation towards this project, the GTA had embarked on a massive training programme to build and upgrade the capacity and skills of its staff for efficient management of those offices.

They would also hire more people to augment the staff strength.

Mr Donkor was speaking at a workshop in Kumasi organized to sensitize stakeholders in the hospitability industry on the responsibilities and role of the Authority.

It provided the platform to update them on the Tourism Fund created in support of tourist attraction sites – to bring facilities there to acceptable standards.

He reminded the participants to stick to best practices to grow the tourism sector of the economy.

Mr. Ekow Sampson, the Ashanti Regional Tourism Manager, said he was confident the creation of the district offices would provide a big boost to the development of tourism at the grassroots.
