KNUST to promote market-driven programmes – Professor Ellis

Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice Chancellor (VC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has pledged to promote market-driven programmes at the university to inject pace into the nation’s socio-economic development.

He said the KNUST would remain focused on the goal of aiding the transformation of the society through research, technology transfer and engagement with industry.

He said they would take bold initiatives to assist train the needed human resource to lead the national development agenda.

Professor Ellis was speaking at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the KNUST and Technical University College of Tamale in Kumasi.

The VC signed for the University, while Professor Abubakr Alhassan, Principal of the College initialed for his institution.

The agreement would be in force for four years, and is renewable.

Under it, KNUST is expected to mentor the College, share ideas, monitor its admissions and academic programmes, as well as facilitate technology transfer and research.

The College specializes in human settlement planning and is the first private institute of higher learning to be established in the northern region.

Professor Ellis lauded the authorities for their vision and said he was confident that they would liaise effectively with the KNUST to achieve their objectives.

Professor Alhassan expressed worry about the poor state of development in the north and said the College would work to change things through world-class education delivery.
