Chief farmer organises rally for farmers

farmerCocoa farmers in and around Assin Anhwiasu in the Assin North District have commended the Central Regional Cocoa Chief Farmer and his staff for organising the first ever education rally for them to improve and expand their farms.

Nana Kobina Ankrah, an opinion leader and also a cocoa farmer in the area, made the commendation when he chaired a rally organised by the office of the Central Regional Chief Cocoa Farmer for farmers at Assin Anhwiasu in Assin North District.

The rally was aimed at sensitizing the farmers on the need to adopt modern cocoa farming practices and also to use only recommended fungicides, fertilizer, insecticide, to make the soil fertile, control capsid bugs (akate) and other insect pest on the cocoa, control black pod disease on the cocoa and also farmers to practice good cocoa farming to get more high yield.

Name Ankrah stressed the need for the organisers to periodically organise such rallies for cocoa farmers to keep them always abreast with farming techniques.

He said this would boost the morale of the farmers to produce quality cocoa beans to help sustain the position of the country as the number one quality cocoa producer in the world.

Nana Kwesi Ofori, Central Regional Chief Cocoa Farmer, expressed his appreciation to the farmers for attending the programme in their numbers.

He advised the farmers to desist from using unapproved chemicals on their farms adding that the usage of such chemicals would not only lead to low yield of cocoa but also could destroy their farms in the future.

Nana Ofori mentioned “Super Gro” as one of the dangerous chemical which some unpatriotic persons going round selling to them and advised them to report to the police anyone who sells such bad chemicals to the police.

The chief famer later distributed 360 pieces of treated mosquito nets donated by Cocoa Board to Ghana Cocoa-Coffee-Shea nuts Farmers Association to be distributed to their members.

He also advised farmers whose pass books were with the cocoa purchasing clerks to go for them, adding that, it is not the best practice for one to keep his or her passbook with the clerks.

The Chief Farmer said records in their pass books will determined if one qualifies for some benefits from Cocoa Board.
