Government recognises importance of information to development
The Government recognises that information flow is important to the country’s socio-economic development, Mr Mahama Ayariga, Minister of Information and Media Relations said on Monday.
This, he said, was why the Ministry would continue to partner with the media to help shape attitudes of the citizenry to achieve that objective.
Mr. Ayariga stated this when the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana paid a courtesy call on him in Accra.
The Minister said Ghana and China had a long-standing relationship, adding that Government appreciated the efforts of the Chinese government for instituting the African Development Fund to support other sectors of the economy.
Mr. Ayaiga expressed the hope that there would be more collaboration between Ghana and China, adding “we will continue to deepen the cooperation between the two countries.”
Gong Jianzhong, Chinese Ambassador, said Ghana and China were both developing countries and had always supported and learned from each other.
He said information and media sectors played a great role in promoting mutual cooperation, stating that the Chinese government would co-operate with the Ministry to enhance the sector.
“I fully believe our bi-lateral relationship can be enhanced to bring tangible benefits to our people”, Jianzhong said.
