Workshop on ICT integration in education held

Microsoft, in partnership with British Council, has organized a two-day workshop on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Integration in Education to explore the impact of innovation on the quality of teaching and learning.

The event, dubbed: “Leveraging Innovation for Global Competitiveness,” served as platform to hasten the integration of ICT in education, especially at this critical time in shaping the innovative teaching and learning using ICT in Ghana.

The workshop also provided opportunity for leaders in the field and experts in ICT education to share ideas and challenges they faced from local, regional and international perspectives and devise strategies for integrating ICT in education.

Speaking at the event in Accra, Mrs Mercy Omari Tenkorang, Head of Business Development of Microsoft, Ghana, expressed Microsoft’s willingness to support Ghana’s education through ICT.

She said Microsoft had put in place measures to ensure that ICT played a pivotal role in improving teaching and learning in the country’s educational system.

She said these measures would help discover young and promising ICT experts who were willing to bring transformation in the country’s education through ICT.

Mrs Omari Tenkorang  said young ones would be trained and be given the opportunity to exhibit their creativity and that workshops would also be organised for teachers to enable them to appreciate the important of ICT in education.

She encouraged students to exploit the power of ICT and help them contribute to the development of the country and pledged to work with government to support the entire educational process of the country.

Mr Moses Anibaba, Director of British Council, Ghana, urged the government to initiate measures to improve the educational system through the promotion of ICT.

He said ICT in education was needed to be taken seriously since it had the potential to contribute immensely to the development of education.

He assured government of British Council’s commitment to provide the needed support to ensure the promotion of ICT in education.

Mr Charles Tsegah, Deputy Director General of Education, who spoke on behalf of the Minister of Education, commended Microsoft and British Council for their immense support for the development of education in the country.
