Stop interfering with Police work – Commander
The Konongo Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Alex Amenyo, has urged politicians, chiefs and those with influence to stop interfering with the work of the police.
He said the police should be allowed the free hand to operate and bring law breakers to justice.
He described as worrying the situation where high profile and respected personalities often intervened and pleaded with the police to allow arrested suspects to escape punishment.
Speaking at the annual social gathering of the police popularly known as “WASSA” held at Konongo, Chief Superintendent Amenyo said this was unhelpful to the fight against indiscipline and lawlessness and would have to cease..
He gave high marks to officers and men of the Division for the hard work, professionalism and dedication which had brought down the crime rate in the area.
He said available statistics show that the number of reported criminal cases reduced from 4,137 in 2011 to 3,915 cases in 2012, representing a 5.5 per cent reduction.
He said the police were determined to do more to keep the numbers substantially low by stepping up their patrols and erecting snap check points.
Chief Superintendent Amenyo encouraged the police officers to continue to act professionally and refuse to be part of anything that could bring the image of the service into disrepute.
He urged them to work to win public confidence, support and cooperation, and praised chiefs and political leaders in the area for supporting the activities of the police.
