TEWU appreciates President’s effort to resolve labour dispute
The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) said on Tuesday that it appreciated President John Dramani Mahama’s efforts to resolve labour dispute and has summoned an emergency management committee meeting tomorrow to consider the President’s call on union members to resume work.
The committee would also consider National Labour Commission (NLC) directive to TEWU to submit in writing to GES in seven days all legal issues relating to its grievances.
Mr Raphael Apaaya, the General Secretary of TEWU, told the GNA in an interview that issues the committee would discuss are those that compelled union members to go on strike.
These include payment of outstanding over time for watchmen as well as the payment of 15 per cent critical support premium not paid to 11 classes of non-teaching staff since 2010.
He said the services of such personnel help to facilitate education delivery and it is painful for anybody to underrate their roles, adding, that their work had sustained these institutions over the years.
Mr Apaaya appealed to all members to remain calm until the outcome of the management committee meeting of TEWU.
