Ghana Premier League: Arsenals’ relegation blues worsened

footballVisiting Berekum Arsenals were handed a painful 0-1 defeat in their Glo-Premier league Day 20 match against King Faisal at the Baba Yara Sports stadium in Kumasi on Easter Sunday.

The outcome, which Arsenals fought hard to avoid worsens the situation of the 15th-placed club as the result sank them further down the log.

It took Faisal 61 minutes to break the deadlock and goal-scorer, Kofi Owusu, deserves all the credit for the manner in which he sneaked past the Arsenals defence to connect home a Kwadwo Boateng corner kick.

The first half was uneventful with both teams concentrating most of the action in midfield which made it difficult to produce any decent chance.

Faisal, buoyed by their few supporters at the stadium, commenced the second half the better side and nearly stunned the visitors with an early goal, but Yassir Abdallah proved wasteful upfront.

Arsenal responded swiftly as they caught the defence of Faisal ball watching in a counter-attack, however, Kwasi Bonsu’s 49th minute strike from the edge of the 18-yard box went over.

Substitute Owusu was to put the homers ahead with that all important goal to snatch the three maximum points at stake just a minute after the hour mark.

The two teams became more aggressive in the latter parts which saw Arsenals’ defender Akwasi Awuni being red-carded for a dangerous tackle on goal-scorer, Owusu.
