Onwi Government Hospital builds 30-bed capacity maternity block
The Onwi Government Hospital in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality through its internally-generated fund, is constructing a 30-bed capacity maternal block at a cost of GH¢300,000.00.
The project, now at the lintel level, is targeted for completion within the next 12 months.
Speaking at a fund-raising durbar in aid of its implementation, Mr Kwabena Owusu-Aduomi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu, urged the people to show a sense of ownership for the facility and contribute their quota toward improving conditions there.
He said it was time they all accepted to complement efforts by the government to make the hospital the preferred choice of patients.
The MP pledged to use his share of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) fund to support the project.
Additionally, he pledged to engage experts to efficiently supervise and ensure value for money.
Dr Gabriel Boakye, the Board Chairman, said the goal was to provide quality maternal and child healthcare.
This way, he said, they would reduce the incidence of maternal and child mortality.
He expressed the determination of the management to do everything to upgrade the equipment and facilities at the hospital to make it the first point of call by patients.
Dr Regina Appiah, the Medical Superintendent, said the project could not wait, given the strategic location of the hospital and the number of pregnant women it had been seeing.
An amount of GH¢10,000.00 was raised at the durbar.
