Diagnostics center opens in Accra
Spectrum, an Egyptian company in collaboration with its Ghanaian counterparts Alyan Brew Butler (ABB), on Thursday inaugurated the ABB Diagnostics Center in Accra.
The center, which is the first of kind in West Africa, would develop and manufacture high quality in-vitro diagnostic reagents used for the detection of diseases in laboratories and also screen and diagnose patients.
Mrs Rama Savage, the Chief Operating Officer of the Center, said the idea of the production of reagents in Ghana is to reduce the high cost and make it affordable.
She said ABB had worked with Spectrum in Egypt for years and decided to collaborate with them to share the knowledge and also build the capacity of the two countries in order to promote easy diagnostics.
Dr Afisah Zakaria, Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation at the Ministry of Health, said the project was a good initiative for the country in the area of capacity building and jobs creation.
The Egyptian Ambassador in Ghana, Mr Omar Salim, said the center would give an opportunity for laboratory field technicians to work together and share ideas.
