SADA CEO says 300 persons in Upper West benefiting from SADA guinea fowl project
About 300 out of 1,500 people are benefiting from the Guinea Fowl Project under the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) in the Upper West Region.
Mr. Henry Kangah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), SADA/Asongtaba Guinea Fowl Production and Marketing Company, said land had been acquired along the Wa/Tumu road to erect structures for the project.
He told a stakeholders’ meeting in Wa that five farms would be set up in all the SADA operational regions and the farms would be operational by August.
Mr. Kangah said nuclear and satellite farms would established at regional and district levels in the region while cold stores would be opened in all 10 regions.
Alhaji Gilbert Iddi, Chief Executive Officer of SADA, said the purpose for holding the stakeholders’ meeting was to give them the opportunity to give their views about the way forward concerning the project so they could incorporate those views into their activities.
He said SADA believed in private/public partnership and that informed SADA to sell GH¢25 million worth of shares to a private investor.
He said SADA itself bought GH¢15 million of the shares which according to him would be transferred to farmers gradually.
Alhaji Iddi refuted allegations that the Guinea Fowl Project was not visible in the Upper West Region, saying everything about the project including management and restoration was rather excellent in the region.
He expressed worry about the wrong figures being churned out by sections of the media and appealed to the public to treat such figures with contempt because they were intended to cause mischief.
On the allegation that SADA was now going round buying guinea fowls, Alhaji Iddi said SADA was not the body implementing the project and could not have bought any guinea fowls.
