Hasaacas Ladies wins maiden Ghana women’s league
Hasaacas Ladies emerged winners of the inaugural Women’s National League after beating Fabulous Ladies 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday.
The clash, between the champions of the two zones, Hasaacas Ladies (Southern) and Fabulous Ladies (Northern), saw all goals coming from the spot with Jennifer Cudjoe netting a brace and Agnes Aduako, scoring for the Kumasi-based side.
Hasaacas Ladies were by far the better side but had to come back to seal victory after Fabulous Ladies shot into the lead on 23 minutes through Aduako. The Black Queens forward was fouled in the vital.
Thirteen minutes later, Cudjoe restored parity after Samira Suleiman was adjudged to have been impeded by Berlinda Anane. Cudjoe sent Fabulous Ladies goalie Beatrice Ntiwah the wrong way from the spot.
It was Hasaacas Ladies all the way in the second half with Suleiman, Ernestina Adambila and Niber Lily forcing their opponents’ defence to work above themselves.
Niber, ran at the Fabulous Ladies defence consistently and it was only a matter of time that the winner would come. It did come on 83 minutes when hard-pressed Anane handled a cross by Niber. The resultant kick was slammed in by Cudjoe to seal victory.
Hasaacas Ladies were presented with a trophy plus GH¢2000 whilst Fabulous Ladies went home with GH¢1000. Samira was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the championship whilst Fabulous Ladies shot-stopper Ntiwah was named the safest pair of hands. Samira and Aduako, who scored 14-goals apiece in the championship share the top scorers prize. All the individual prizes came with a monetary reward of GH¢100.
