Military bids farewell to ex-Chief of Defence Staff
Lieutenant General (LT. Gen) Peter Augestine Blay, immediate past Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, has asked officers of the Forces to be disciplined and uphold the image of their profession.
“We are ambassadors of this noble service so we should not do anything that will tarnish the image of our dear service. Let us be proud of our service and uphold its good name at all time”, he said.
LT. Gen. Blay, who made the call at a farewell parade held in his honour on Friday in Accra, said there was the need to explore ways of sustaining the relevance of the armed forces to the country’s democratic dispensation.
He said: “There is so much wealth out at sea but until we are able to effectively create a marine-time domain and stakeholders are able to conduct their businesses in a sound environment we shall not be able to harness this wealth”.
LT. Gen Blay said the country’s oil fields must be protected so that the country would be able to generate wealth through taxes.
He thanked the government for investing in the Navy over the years and gave the assurance that assets would be put to good use.
LT. Gen Blay said ships provided to the Navy would be used to protect the fields for generation of wealth at sea.
Rear Admiral Matthew Quashie is expected to take over as the new Chief of Defence Staff.
