Lets make schools environment academic friendly – Prof Ansu-Kyeremeh
Nana Fobi Kropa III, Apemanimhene and a Professor at the School of Communication Studies, University of Ghana, Legon, has stressed the need for all to pull together to make the school environment more academically friendly.
People should take responsibility and accept to do their bit to make things better.
The chief, known in private life as Prof Kwesi Ansu-Kyeremeh, was speaking at a fund-raising durbar held by the people of Apemanin in the Atwima-Kwanwoma District in aid of the construction of a new classroom block for the local Junior High School (JHS).
A total amount of GH¢4,215.00 was realized to support the project which is being undertaken through the payment of special levies and free labour by the citizens.
Nana Kropa said the critical importance of education in the fight against poverty, sexually transmitted diseases, maternal and child mortality must not be lost on anyone and urged parents to cut down on frivolous spending to save enough money to take care of the basic school needs of their children.
Premium should be put on education to help the youth receive skills that would enable them to survive the growing competition of globalization. It is also the way to assure transparency, stability and the war on graft and corruption.
He said toying with education could prove too costly and should be avoided.
Mr Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, former Local Government and Rural Development Minister, gave the community high marks for the self-help spirit and initiative.
He used the occasion to remind parents about the need to live up to their responsibilities to their children and blamed the rising indiscipline, immorality and crime on child neglect.
They need to ensure stability of marriages to bring down the incidence of single parenting with its associated evils.
Mr Adjei-Darko expressed concern about the refusal of some men to accept responsibility for pregnancies of their concubines saying that it is a contributing factor for such bad characters.
He also advised the children to study hard since that was the path to life success.
Educational materials were presented to some selected school children for punctuality and academic performance.
