Ga East records 86.3% revenue generation in 2012

Mr John Kwao Sackey, Municipal Chief Executive of Ga East, has said the Municipality had increased its revenue generation from 63.3 per cent in 2007 to 86.3 per cent in 2012.

He said the municipality achieved this target due to its collaboration with stakeholders, for project implementation, and the engagement of private revenue collectors in waste management, leading to cost reduction.

Mr. Sackey was speaking to the Ghana News Agency on the decentralization process in the Municipality, in Accra on Wednesday.

He said the Assembly was seeking to improve upon the Ghana School Feeding Programme being piloted in the Municipality and that “Through the social accountability projects, the assembly linked farmers to caterers”.

Mr. Sackey said the Assembly was sponsoring the feeding about 1,000 pupils in three schools in the area from its resources since the beginning of 2012.

He said: “As part of the achievement of the Municipality, some LESDEP beneficiaries have received support to set up businesses in beauty care, dressmaking, catering to alleviate poverty.

“The Sesemi women group also received support to expand their bakery business”.

Mr. Sackey said the Assembly in consultation with community members at zonal, unit and departmental levels, initiated a four-year medium term development plan, and an annual action plan, to guide its development interventions.

On challenges confronting the Assembly, Mr. Sackey mentioned inadequate funds for the implementation of the decentralization policy, office space, staff accommodation, limited borrowing power of the Assembly and insufficient logistics.
