2013 May Day to be celebrated in Sekondi

This year’s National May Day celebration will be held at the Sekondi Sports Stadium at Essipong near Sekondi, Mr. Ellis Ankomah, Western Regional Secretary of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (GTUC), said on Monday.

Mr. Ankomah at a press briefing in Takoradi said the event would be organized by labour unions, led by GTUC on the theme: “Pension: It is your Right and your responsibility”.

Mr. Ankomah said President John Dramini Mahama, would be the guest speaker.

Mr. Ankomah asked workers to periodically verify from the Social Security and the National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) whether their employers pay their SSNIT contributions.

He said there would be radio and television discussions on the theme of the celebration, and a health walk in Takoradi, which would be graced by the Western Regional Minister, Service Commanders and Secretary-General of the GTUC.
