Ghanaian businesses urged to come to GIPC for marketing and promotional assistance
The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has appealed to Ghanaians to work harder to transform the nation into a broad based industrial and export led country.
To this end, Mr Kofi Antiri, Director in charge of Research, Investment and Development of the GIPC, urged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAS) as well as individuals to identify projects in their areas of operation for promotion and marketing assistance from the GIPC in order to attract both local and foreign investors.
He said the GIPC existed to assist in facilitating and marketing projects for investment for institutions, entrepreneurs and individuals and therefore, the onus rests on interested businesses to register with it and utilize their services.
Mr Antiri was addressing personnel of the MMDAS and representatives of private companies in the Western Region at a day’s workshop to mark the beginning of a countrywide investment sensitization tour by the GIPC.
He said it was important for local investors to take advantage of the benefits and incentives existing for them to intensify the investment in their projects so that the opportunity is not taken over by foreigners.
Mr Antiri expressed regret that many people are still unaware of the services provided by the GIPC that has been in existence since 1994 as it has registered few projects especially from the Western Region.
Mr Ebenezer Teye Addo, Western Regional Minister, appealed to land owners to resist the temptation for the outright sales of land but use it as equity for any intended investment.
He entreated officials of Lands Administration to reduce the process many experience as they seek to acquire lands saying the Western Regional Spatial Development Framework could streamline land management in the region.
Mr Addo said it was equally important for all to contribute to the socio-economic growth of the country by facilitating for prospective investors to achieve the “Better Ghana Agenda.
The Minister said increase in investment has the potential to transform Ghana into an industry and technology-driven economy capable of delivering decent jobs with widespread, equitable and sustainable growth and development.
