Upper West Minister warns against fertilizer smuggling to Burkina Faso
Dr. Avea Ephraim Nsoh, Upper West Regional Minister, has cautioned people in the area, to refrain from the smuggling of government subsidized fertilizer to neighbouring Burkina Faso.
He gave the assurance that security checks would be strengthened along the border and its adjacent communities to stop the practice.
Dr. Nsoh gave the warning when he paid courtesy call on four paramount chiefs in the Sissala West and Sissala East Districts of the region, to introduce himself to the traditional rulers.
They are Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton VI, Paramount Chief of Tumu, Kuoro Kuri Limann Buktie, Paramount Chief of Gwollu, Kuoro Mumuni Dimmie, Paramount Chief of Wellembelle, and Kuoro Barecheh Nlowie Baninye II, Acting President of the Buwa Traditional Area.
Dr. Nsoh said the smuggling of fertilizer across the border for sale, denied farmers access to the farm input and a waste of government meager resources.
He appealed to the people to initiate self-help projects to supplement the efforts of government to bring develop to the area.
Dr. Nsoh commended the chiefs for maintaining peace in their traditional areas, and reminded the people that peace was an essential for development.
Alhaji Amidu Sulemana, Minister for Roads and Highways, and also Member of Parliament for Sissala West, who joined the Regional Minister at Gwollu, called on the youth to serve as vigilantes to check the smuggling of fertilizer.
